Arnaldo Rivera DOCG Barolo Undicicomuni – 2018

$98.00

Barolo undicicomuni is arguably Arnaldo Rivera’s most important wine. Blending fruit from across the Langhe’s eleven Barolo villages, it epitomises the quintessential values of traditional, historic Barolo; values that once Arnaldo Rivera himself and today the co-op Terre del Barolo continue to defend.

A traditional Barolo in an outstanding vintage, due to the unique blend of 11 Cru sites the wine has exceptional drinkability.
On the nose classic notes of violet, spice liquorice and tar can be found, while on the palate the wine is rich, with excellent structure.

While the ArnaldoRivera single vineyard Barolos may be more eye-catching, it is the Barolo undicicomuni that demands the winemaker’s greatest attention. He is required to blend different fruit and terroir expressions from diverse villages, just as an artist balances colours to complete his work of art. This means that the Barolo undicicomuni is naturally ArnaldoRivera’s most complex Barolo.

A shorter ageing in wood – instead of the 32 months of each cru – allows the wine to be more accessible and suitable for early drinking.

More Information

Barolo, Piedmont, Italy

The project – Arnaldo Rivera wines were launched in early 2017, with Barolo vintage 2013. All  wines are from top Cru sites. The launch of AR represents a revolutionary moment in Barolo, they are the only winery in the area to produce Crus Barolo in each one of the historic villages of the appellation. Their flagship wine Barolo undicicomuni, a Barolo grande cuvée, actually works as an ambassador of the whole region, consisting of 11 villages..pretty cool!! The winery has signed an agreement with the most prestigious vineyards in order to harvest grapes of the very highest quality.

The man – Arnaldo Rivera was born on December 13th 1919 in Castiglione Falletto, a small village at the heart of the historic Barolo winegrowing area. He was a local primary school teacher, mayor of his village for 36 years, and founder in 1958 of the Terre del Barolo winery, which still today is the only direct cooperative wine cellar in Barolo. The reasons that led Arnaldo Rivera to envisage a cooperative winery in Barolo are associated with his profound understanding of the particular characteristics of the area and its people, combined with great foresight and a desire for social justice.

The result – The combination of an in-depth knowledge of the geological origins of the Barolo wine growing area plus an intensely visionary project to only work with the very best sites has resulted in fine wines of the highest quality.
