Carrick Bannockburn Riesling 2019

$35.00

The 2019 Carrick Bannockburn Riesling is a classic, off-dry Riesling, with notes of orange blossom and lime. Long and intense, enjoy it now or age for 10+ years – that is the beauty of Riesling.

Carrick’s Riesling parcel is planted entirely on its own roots and benefits from this direct connection with the earth. Each vine is carefully tended by hand during the season, then hand-picked to drop any fruit that is not up to par. Once at the winery the fruit is whole-bunch pressed to retain the clarity of fruit aromas. Made entirely in tank, using wild yeast, the ferment is halted when the right balance of sugar to acid is found.

Serve well-chilled, delicious by itself, or fantastic with spicy food, salads, soft cheeses.

Balanced, fresh, enticing.

More Information

Carrick’s vineyards and winery are situated on Cairnmuir Road in Bannockburn, a small subregion of the cool climate of Central Otago New Zealand,  stretching along the southern side of the Kawarau River.

Named after the Carrick Range, all the wines are estate-grown, wild fermented using native vineyard yeasts and minimal winery additions. The wines are certified organic through BioGro and the company is certified Sustainable by SWNZ. Biodynamic practices have been employed since 2008.

At Carrick the focus is on Organic farming and Pinot Noir. The oldest vines on the property are 25 years old and many are planted on their own original root stock. The aim is to make wines which are expressive of the place and the season. The nutrition of the vines is supplemented by their own organic composts, and careful use of natural products such as seaweed. Pruning, leaf plucking, shoot and bunch thinning, are all carried out manually, by a small team of dedicated employees. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure quality control is of the highest standard.

Grape bunch selection at harvest is crucial with only the best parcels used for Carrick wines.

Barrel ageing and the use of many of the best coopers from France is also a key component of the wines and provides further layers and complexity.

Grape varieties such as Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and of course Pinot Noir makeup this exciting selection of wines from Carrick.
