Carrick Bannockburn Unravelled Pinot Noir 2021

$36.00

Carrick Unravelled, the name references the Carrick Bend, our symbol of the people and land, here it is a metaphor for the more relaxed style of this wine.

The vineyard is tended by hand, allowing for careful management of individual vines, throughout the season. Each parcel is hand-harvested and undergoes a wild fermentation, in tank, before being pressed and barrelled down. Made from predominantly Dijon clones on various rootstocks, from vines planted in 1996.

Matured in French oak barrique for 8 months, with 7% new oak, the Unravelled is a light-bodied and finely structured Pinot Noir. The 2019 has lovely balance, with red plum, rhubarb and raspberry coulis notes, as well as hints of liquorice and clove.  Soft, plush, delicious.  Drink now!

More Information

Carrick’s vineyards and winery are situated on Cairnmuir Road in Bannockburn, a small subregion of the cool climate of Central Otago New Zealand,  stretching along the southern side of the Kawarau River.

Named after the Carrick Range, all the wines are estate-grown, wild fermented using native vineyard yeasts and minimal winery additions. The wines are certified organic through BioGro and the company is certified Sustainable by SWNZ. Biodynamic practices have been employed since 2008.

At Carrick the focus is on Organic farming and Pinot Noir. The oldest vines on the property are 25 years old and many are planted on their own original root stock. The aim is to make wines which are expressive of the place and the season. The nutrition of the vines is supplemented by their own organic composts, and careful use of natural products such as seaweed. Pruning, leaf plucking, shoot and bunch thinning, are all carried out manually, by a small team of dedicated employees. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure quality control is of the highest standard.

Grape bunch selection at harvest is crucial with only the best parcels used for Carrick wines.

Barrel ageing and the use of many of the best coopers from France is also a key component of the wines and provides further layers and complexity.

Grape varieties such as Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and of course Pinot Noir makeup this exciting selection of wines from Carrick.
