Chateau de Cerons – Cerons AOC Sweet 2011 – 375ml

$45.00

The warm, early spring was followed by a cool summer. This meant that flowering was spread out and ripening uneven. Very fine weather conditions in September and October led to the superb development of botrytis. A record number of passes in the vineyard accounts for wines of great complexity. A very fresh nose dominated by citrus aromas and hints of mandarin rind. The palate is voluptuous, accented with
bittersweet hints of orange and kumquat. 2011 Château de Cérons is a fine illustration of an excellent vintage for this appellation. The wine is well-balanced, complex and wonderfully fresh.

“HEV” (High environmental value)

Chateau de Cérons is a lovely manor house built in the early 18th century on a terrace overlooking the Garonne River. Located in the heart of the village of Cérons in the Graves region, the estate is surrounded by tall stone walls. The château is located across from a beautiful 12th century church. Xavier and Caroline Perronmat took over management of the family estate in 2012. They accepted the challenge of producing wines of the highest quality in one of the least-known, but oldest appellations of Bordeaux: Cérons. Chateau de Cérons has 26 hectares of vines on a plateau with deep gravel soil overlooking the surrounding area. The Cérons appellation, bordering on Sauternes, is an enclave in the Graves region. The unique terrior produces three different types of wine: red Graves, dry white Graves and Cérons, a sweet white Bordeaux.

This is one to watch in the Graves, with brilliant white wine to rival many Crus Classés, and red of superb refinement and delicacy of tannin. The 2015 and 2016 vintages show the increased volume on the palate that Caroline would like to bring to the red wines here. There is also a small volume of Cérons, the tiny appellation for sweet wine which is a bit lighter and dryer than most Sauternes, refined and very elegant.

This is a coconscious Chateau being very aware of their every action & resulting impact in vineyard, winery and workplace. The wines reflect this, as they are harmonious, alive and pure.
