Chateau Picque Caillou Rouge 2018

Château Picque Caillou, 2018 Red
93 Points. This wine has a texture that moves away from crispness to a more generous, rounded character. It offers a tangy edge that contrasts the ripe apple and pear flavours. The wood aging, still underway, is a subtle hint in the background.

JAMES SUCKLING 89-90 points

Château Picque Caillou, 2018 Red
89-90 Points. Some pleasant berry and floral character to this medium-bodied young red with silky tannins and a fresh finish.

ROBERT PARKER- The Wine Advocate 91- 93 points

Château Picque Caillou, 2018 Red
91-93 Points. Deep garnet-purple coloured, the 2018 Picque Caillou leaps from the glass with bold notes of blackcurrant cordial, blueberry pie and preserved plums with hints of damp soil, truffles and camphor. Full-bodied, it gives mouth-filling black fruits with loads of minty sparks and a firm, chewy frame, finishing long and earthy.

More Information

Château Picque Caillou is located at the gates of the city of Bordeaux in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, the Bordeaux vineyard’s historic cradle. A close neighbour of the prestigious Haut-Brion and Pape Clément châteaux, this 21-hectare vineyard carries a name indicative of its pebbly soils that originated from sediments deposited by the nearby Garonne River over thousands of years.

In 2006, Paulin Calvet took over the daily running of the vineyard, breathing new life into the estate and giving it new impetus. The wines of Picque Caillou quickly acquired higher levels of quality and consistency, soon attracting the attention of numerous wine professionals.

It was in 2007 that consultant œnologists Professor Denis Dubourdieu and Valérie Lavigne joined the winemaking team, bringing their technical rigour and skill. And so a top-quality wine was born. A wine that displays superb balance and delicacy, reflecting perfectly the values of the prestigious Pessac-Léognan appellation.

Once the very heart of the Bordeaux vineyard, the vines of the “Graves de Bordeaux” surrounded the city. Today, Picque Caillou remains one of the last bastions standing up to an all-consuming urban development that holds no respect for soils or history. The wines of Chateau Picque Caillou, represent old Bordeaux. They stand for quality and substance they speak of seduction and style, they remain balanced and beguiling.
