Curator Wine Co Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

$32.00

This Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was hand-picked and had a two-day cold soak then naturally fermented using indigenous yeasts. The ferment was hand plunged three times daily for approximately ten days. Then basket pressed and filled into French (15% new) and two year old USA oak for three weeks barrel fermentation followed by 18 months maturation. Plenty of ripe blackberries, some raspberry and even violets, this perfumed wine has softly integrated oak and an elegant finish.

95 Points – Sam Kim March 2021 – Impressively ripe and fragrant, the bouquet shows crème de cassis, dark plum, cocoa and cedar characters with a hint of tobacco complexity. The palate is concentrated and mouthfilling with fine texture and polished tannins, offering excellent structure and length. Stylish and immensely appealing. At its best: now to 2033.

94 Points – Tyson Stelzer 2022 Halliday Wine Companion – With 5% merlot; co-fermented. Basket pressed; matured in 15% new French and seasoned French and American oak barrels; unfined and unfiltered. If you love full-bodied cabernet, this is for you. A ripe style of fleshy, spicy black/redcurrants and cassis. Bright acidity, finely structured tannins, vibrant fruit and dark chocolate and coffee oak make for impressive balance, undeterred persistence and considerable integrity. Skilfully executed, delicious and great value.

More Information

The Curator Wine Co was established in 2012 and is located on the western side of Barossa Valley, in the sub-region of Marananga.

The vineyard was first established in the late 1980’s and the onsite CWCo winery was built prior to the 2020 vintage. Within the estate are eight individual blocks, each with unique soil profiles, including quartzite, blondstone, ironstone, alluvial clay loam, sandy loam over clay, and black crackling clay.

Winemaker and proprietor, Thomas White, is passionate about curating individual wines from each block to show their differences and add complexity. The goal is to make wines that reflect their site through minimal handling and intervention.

Although passionate about Marananga and his estate, Thomas also believes in profiling the greater Barossa, sourcing small parcels of grapes from selected older vineyards in Vine Vale, Greenock, Hallet Valley, Stone Well, Eden Valley and Gomersal.

Curator Wine Co wines are hand harvested, naturally fermented, and basket pressed into French oak from selected Cooperages.  Applying traditional winemaking techniques, these wines are made in minimalist in style without fining or filtration creating vegan friendly wines that are dark, flavoursome and juicy with a smooth balanced finish.
