Domaine Alary Côtes du Rhône “La Gerbaude” 2016

The 2016 is a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah & 20% Carignan, it’s ripe but restrained with classical Cotes du Rhone gluggability and terrific balance for a young wine at this price. medium-bodied, good fruit weight & silky tannins. Worth every penny. Drink to 2020 – but it’s hard to leave it alone.

89 Points, Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate, “A peppery, plummy wine, the 2016 Cotes du Rhone la Gerbaude is a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Carignan. It’s medium-bodied, with garrigue and licorice shadings, dark fruit and a fine, silky finish. It should be capable of lasting up to 5 or more years in a cool cellar, but there’s no need to defer gratification.”

More Information

Denis Alary and his family have been in the Cairanne region of the southern Rhone since 1692 so it’s fair to say that they know a thing or two about it. Cairanne has recently been promoted from Cotes du Rhone Village status to a fully fledged Cru (to rank alongside Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Tavel, Lirac and Châteauneuf-du-Pape), exciting changes are happening in the hamlet of Cairanne. This is in no small measure due to the patience and knowledge of Denis who has stood as the Chair of the Appellation for the past 20 years.
