100% Shiraz from a 1.5 Ha site in Cornas.

93 Points, Decanter Magazine, Tasted by Matt Walls(at 2017 En primeur tastings, Rhône Valley, 01 Nov 2018)Part of Best value Rhône 2017 wines,Always a wine of great finesse and individuality, this is sourced from 80-year-old, low yielding vines grown on granite, and fermented in concrete tanks with daily pumping over before being aged in old barriques. It has a good sense of purity and depth, with a touch of varnish over the expressive red fruits. Medium-bodied, brisk and energetic in style, this works on acidity as well as fine, fairly dry tannins to create structure and add freshness. No excesses or artifice here, just the rapacious fruit.” – Drinking Window 2019 – 2028

(91-93) points, Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, “This microproducer draws fruit from 80-year-old vines in the lieu-dit of Patou. The 2017 Cornas Patou is full-bodied and intense, with an attractive dusty texture of chalk dust, charcoal and crushed stone. Red currant and cassis aromas and flavors complement those stony elements, picking up a bit of cracked pepper on the finish.”

More Information

The Dumien family has lived in the Cornas region since the early 1500’s so they know their way around the vineyards. Winemaker Nicholas Serrette is the 4th generation of vignerons to make wines from this vineyard on the steep slopes of the Patou.

In Celtic, Cornas means “burnt earth,” in French it translates to “terres brulee” which tells you volumes about the dry, warm conditions on these steeply graded stopes. Soils are primarily granite; vineyards are small and challenging to cultivate, given the abrupt drops and eroded faces of many of Cornas’ hillsides. The

Vines are tended using organic principles and everything is picked by hand.
