Domaine Henri et Gilles Buisson St Romain “Sous la Velle” Blanc 2015

89 Points, Burghound, Tasting note: A cool and restrained nose combines notes of citrus zest with those of green apple and floral nuances. There is ample citrus character on the precise and utterly delicious middle weight flavors that possess very good depth on the balanced and lingering finale. This is lovely and a wine that is not especially marked by the ripeness of the 2015 vintage.

More Information

Cradled in the hollow of the hills of Saint-Romain, the two energetic brothers Franck and Frederick have inherited their family’s passion for the land. The Buisson family has been present in the village of Saint Romain in the Cote d’Or since the twelfth century. In 1947, Henri and Marguerite Buisson decided to begin bottling their wine at the domaine and selling it under their own label. Since the 1970s the vineyards have been worked according to organic principles. The vineyards are beautiful and the wines follow suit. The soils are limestone and marls and both the Chardonnay and the Pinot Noir vines are averaging 50 years of age. As rigorous as the farming is, the wine-making is decidedly hands-off. After sorting the grapes twice, there is partial stem inclusion and fermentations commence with native yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is natural and long, elevage takes place over ten months and only a touch of new oak is employed – thus, the wines have precision and energy.
