Famille JM Cazes Domaine L’Ostal Minervois la Liviniere “Estibals” 2015

Owned by the team behind Lynch Bages and made from 60% Syrah, 20% Carignan and 20% Grenache from Minervois la Liviniere. There are loads of fruits on the nose. Dark red and blueberry, almost juby with chocolate and a lick of pippy/stemmy, Carignan sappiness that pulls it back to into a savory line. The palate is quite bright and fruity. Cherry/berry, juby and blueberry pie with fruit tannin pulling things into line. There’s no sense of oak here but there is a good savory seam of spices and dried herbs inside a red fruited overcoat. Really good concentration. The Syrah and Grenache shine through as fruit weight while the Carignan adds that seam of structure.

More Information

The domaine was purchased in 2002 by Jean-Michel Cazes, the owner of Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac.

In the foothills of the Montagne Noire, half-way between the mediaeval town of Carcassonne and the old Roman port in Narbonne, the Domaine L’Ostal Cazes stretches across 150 hectares of land including 60 ha of vines and 25 ha of olive groves.

L’Ostal Cazes owes its name to the term ostal meaning both ”house” and ”family group” in the ancient Occitan language. Its name is loaded with meaning and history for its owners.
