Lino Ramble “Vinyl” Shiraz 2017

Winemaker, Andy Coppard writes, “2017 was a super late start to vintage due to considerable rain during the growing season, as a result the flavour development was sensational. Shiraz in particular demonstrated excellent flavour intensity with excellent natural acidity and super fine tannin structure. We love Vinyl Shiraz because it shouts McLaren Vale, in a fruit driven style, rich dark chocolate and black fruits on the palate. This wine is very approachable in its youth and will only get better in the next 4 to 5 years.”

Lino Ramble :a name put together to represent texture (Lino), and adventure (Ramble) is just the two of us – Andy Coppard and Angela Townsend. That being said we must gratefully acknowledge our invaluable extended team of:

Emily Sheppard from Studio E Creative label extraordinaire, Vineyard Wranglers: the Lacey Family, Quigley Family, Baldaso Family, Paxton Viticulture, Chalk Hill Viticulture. And to the United Nations of backpackers who have helped to pick, prune, bottle, label, foot stomp and plunge us towards our 7th vintage – many many thanks we could not have come this far without you.

What we’ve done: A bit of this and that in Margaret River, Swan Valley, Clare Valley, France, Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale.

How we feel: The overarching idea behind our range of wines is using grape varieties we find intriguing, interesting and drinkable. We make wines stylistically to complement the food we like to eat.

Given our wines are predominantly from single vineyards we want our wines to have a sense of place, be approachable, medium bodied, structural with attention to texture.

Great care is taken to work with people who have grown the best variety for their vineyards. The vineyards are predominantly farmed using organic or biodynamic principles and practices.

Fruit is picked when we have a balance of flavour and natural acidity, followed by cool fermentation, and gentle hand plunging. We don’t believe in working anything hard. Avoid over extraction and keep the additions to a bare minimum. Maturation in old French oak and extended skin contact to create a balanced mouthfeel

We are inspired by the growers who are experimenting with varieties which until recent years haven’t been seen in McLaren Vale before. Some of the Italian varietals in particular are performing outstandingly and are well suited to the Vale’s geology and climatic conditions.

The fruit quality is a winemakers dream.
