Morgan Truchetet Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Bousselots 2019


Les Bousselots lies in the commune’s northern sector, in the direction of Vosne-Romanée; the resulting wine therefore hints at the aromatic delicacy typical of Vosne—almost exotic in its spiced bouquet, overlaid with opulent fruit of velvety refinement. This perfumed gem is already open and giving, showing the suave, fragrant qualities that drive Burgundy lovers (me) mad.

We buy the grapes on the vine, decide on the harvest date and harvest the plot ourselves.
Manual harvest with a first sorting in the vineyard and a second sorting on a vibrating table. 100% de-stemmed. After few days of Cold pre-fermentation, the alcoholic fermentation is done traditionally. We use natural yeasts. No « pigeage », just some pumping over. Then, we do the deviating and pressing. The malolactic fermentation is done in barrels. The ageing is done in barrels (25% of new oak) during 12 months then racked and blended in stainless steel tanks before bottling. Domaine Truchetet, a very special very small Domaine in the heart of Nuits Saint Georges, it has been family owned and run for 6 generations.  Jean-Pierre Truchetet has been handing the baton over to children Morgan and Julie for some time and in 2018 he took full retirement, leaving the next generation in charge.

Soil comes first and they are now “officially” moving towards organic farming. They continue to explore new practices, such as innovative plant and seaweed treatments. Their objective: to give energy back to their soil while bottling the fullest expression of each terroir. In the attempt to avoid too much oak influence in their wines, the Truchetets use an unusual barrel called a Harlequin which combines alternative staves of oak and acacia and does indeed have a harlequin look about it. The acacia allows oxygen ingress without adding brute wood notes, effectively halving the oak influence on the wine. To further mitigate the new wood effect, they undergo a very light toasting for a maximum of two hours.
