Peter Schweiger ‘Kogelberg’ Zweigelt 2015

The grapes were harvested by hand in late October. The must was fermented for ten days, with skin contact throughout, then aged in stainless steel tanks before bottling in the March following the vintage.
The displays an amazingly lively, refreshing, juicy red fruit, full of cherry and blackberry fruit, with the sophisticated gloss typical of Austrian Zweigelt. The spice is light and integrated, resulting in a very satisfying luscious red wine.
It likes being served slightly chilled – pure pleasure! Best consumed in its youth.

More Information

Peter Schweiger and Son are a small, family-owned producer in the Kamptal region of Austria. Kamptal is home to some of Austria’s most famous and highly regarded dry wines. Peter’s sixteen hectares of vineyards are planted to Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and Zweigelt, and are farmed sustainably, by hand. The wines show typical minerality, characteristics similar to the terrior.

Respect and appreciation of their entire environment, the principles of the philosophy of Peter Schweiger and his son. So it is natural for them to farm environmentally friendly and sustainable viticulture. To press the grapes that make great wines, the appreciation of nature and prudent care of the vines is a necessity.

Their philosophy is also reflected on the labels. The compass represents the ties with the region and the ground. The clock embodies the natural production process of the wines and the time that is given to the wines to mature. Only in April, the new vintages come to market. Read is of course by hand and the processing is carried out gently. The estate Schweiger has been operating for three generations and includes a vineyard of 18 hectares in Zobinger and some old plantings in the best vineyards on Heiligenstein, where mainly Grüner Veltliner and Riesling grow.
