Rockford “Black” Sparkling Shiraz 1991 (Disgorged 2016)

Rockford “Black” Sparkling Shiraz is regarded by some as Australia’s best Sparkling Shiraz…the jury might be out on that one but it is certainly amongst Australia’s most iconic. This spent 15 years on lees in the bottle prior to disgorgement in 2016 upon which time that classic rich Rockford liqueur (which is aged fortified Shiraz) is added and the cork pressed into place. This is a “Winemakers Release” (stored at Rockford) until July 2018, it has been perfectly cellared and ready to be consumed or put away in your cellar for a few more years to come. It’s a serious fizz. It’s dark, lush and brooding palate flavours with creamy bubbles and constant tannin grip make it well worth seeking Rockford Black Sparkling Shiraz.

5 Star Winery – Halliday Wine Companion

“Rockford can only be described as an icon, no matter how overused that word may be. It has a devoted band of customers who buy most of the wine through the cellar door or mail order (Rocky O’Callaghan’s entrancing annual newsletter is like no other). Some wine is sold through restaurants, and there are two retailers in Sydney, and one each in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Whether they will have the Basket Press Shiraz available is another matter; it is as scarce as Henschke Hill of Grace (but less expensive).” – James Halliday
