This is a fabulous example of what the Adelaide Hills does best, Chardonnay of great fruit purity and  elegance. The wine has style, beautiful notes of white flowers, citrus and white nectarine.

The grapes are from 3 vineyard sites, Piccadilly, Lobethal and Lenswood at between 450 – 500 m elevation.Undulating with east and west facing aspects, the soils are brown loams over clay with broken shale on the ridges. All hand picked and whole bunch pressed. Fermented and matured on lees in French oak barriques and puncheons.

The 2020 vintage was very low yielding, which resulted in great concentration. The cool ripening conditions produced Chardonnay with intense flavours and excellent balance. Hand picked and whole bunch pressed. Fermented and matured on lees in French oak barriques and puncheons.

More Information

Shaw + Smith own two vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, at Balhannah and Lenswood, totalling 55 hectares. The vineyards are planted to varieties that perform particularly well in the region, namely Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz.

Site selection is particularly important in the Adelaide Hills, with its diversity of altitude, aspect, microclimate, and soil types. Balhannah vineyard sits at 380M Altitude above sea level and Lenswood at 500m.

Shaw+Smith was established by Michael Hill Smith MW and Martin Shaw in 1989. Heading up the  winemaking today is Adam Wadewitz and Martin Shaw. Their vision is to create exciting wines from the Adelaide Hills that reflect site and climate!
