SubRosa Grampians/Pyrenees Shiraz 2016

$31.00

This tidy little wine sings with bright red berries & darker undertones with spice & chocolate. Adam has sourced fruit from the Grampians & the Pyrenees in Victoria’s cool-climate, high country. It makes for a fresh, lighter expression of Shiraz; full of spice and tightly woven tannins. It’s an all over more elegant wine with blue berries, plums and charry grip but it delivers loads of flavour and balance and the length persists for ages leaving the palate with a bright high-toned aftertaste. Excellent stuff.

Mike Bennie, The Winefront 93 points: “A combo of Grampians and Pyrenees here. “I added the viognier to the wine because it kind of needed it, a tougher year, the viognier helps freshen it up”, says winemaker Adam Louder. Go you good thing. Beefy kind of wine but still holds a dedicated freshness and vitality, despite the rich, darker fruits, sense of earthiness, strong lick of dark choc-liquorice. The glossy texture is lovely, a light burr of tannins adds more grunt. It’s not a huge wine, per se, but it is memorable in the way bolder flavour can stain the palate and mind. It’s done well.”
