Arnaldo Rivera DOCG Barolo 1er Cru Novello 2015

$130.00

Truffles and grilled mushrooms on the nose. The palate shows fresh raspberries then kicks in with traditional robust and expected tannins alongside blood orange pithy fruit.  A spicy dry finish, the wine is exemplary & exciting.

A wine of great finesse, complex and elegant, dominated by the fruit with a solid and precise tannic structure. Wine made from grapes grown on 6 different vineyards within the cru, facing due south at an average elevation of 400 m. 100% Nebbiolo 32 months in French oak including a spontaneous malolactic fermentation.

Winefront – Gary Walsh – 92 Points

Hazelnut and nutmeg, dark raspberry, cherry, dusty spices. Medium-bodied, quite drying tannin, a bit powdery, a little black tea, positive grip on the finish and red fruit succulence. Perhaps a little clunky, in a way, but a good wine all up.

More Information

The project – Arnaldo Rivera wines were launched in early 2017, with Barolo vintage 2013. All  wines are from top Cru sites. The launch of AR represents a revolutionary moment in Barolo, they are the only winery in the area to produce Crus Barolo in each one of the historic villages of the appellation. Their flagship wine Barolo undicicomuni, a Barolo grande cuvée, actually works as an ambassador of the whole region, consisting of 11 villages..pretty cool!! The winery has signed an agreement with the most prestigious vineyards in order to harvest grapes of the very highest quality.

The man – Arnaldo Rivera was born on December 13th 1919 in Castiglione Falletto, a small village at the heart of the historic Barolo wine growing area. He was a local primary school teacher, mayor of his village for 36 years, and founder in 1958 of the Terre del Barolo winery, which still today is the only direct cooperative wine cellar in Barolo. The reasons that led Arnaldo Rivera to envisage a cooperative winery in Barolo are associated with his profound understanding of the particular characteristics of the area and its people, combined with great foresight and a desire for social justice.

The result – The combination of an in-depth knowledge of the geological origins of the Barolo wine growing area plus an intensely visionary project to only work with the very best sites has resulted in fine wines of the highest quality.
