Barossa Valley, South Australia
Jason Schwarz grew up surrounded by vines at his parent’s property in Bethany, just down the road from where he makes his wine today. Upon completing university Jason headed overseas, working in Bordeaux, Burgundy, Northern Rhone, Stellenbosch and Napa. He crafts proud modern Barossa wines from old vines.
The Schiller vines were planted in 1880! After a recent last minute reprieve from the bulldozers, the 135 year old vines are a rare treasure!
Oak is used sparingly in all of Jason’s wines he endeavours to allow the ground and the vintage to define their character.
Winefront – December 2017 – 2016 Schwarz Wine Co Shiraz – 93 Points – Campbell Mattinson – “It’s a substantial red wine with fruit – rather than oak – to the fore. It’s a pure expression of shiraz in a Barossa landscape. It tastes of coal and blackberry jam, campfire and cloves, but it’s that hearty hit of blackberried – tinged with raspberry – fruit that really characterises it. It’s a faultless shiraz, from all angles.”
