Piedmont
The greater region of Piedmont (sometimes Piedmonte) in the mid-north-west of Italy is home to a varying number of grape varieties but the most noble wines come from the regions of Barolo & Barbaresco where the red Nebbiolo grape is made into profoundly age-worthy wines. Other red varieties such as Barbera, Dolcetto & Freisa make earlier drinking wines while the whites made from Moscato (usually frizzante in style) & Gavi are best consumed while they are fresh and young.
